Business Plan for Franchise and Finance Application

Over the years I’ve helped many people create a Business Plan for their Business.  I’m often asked “Can you do my business plan for me?”  This question concerns me as it shows they do not understand the importance of a Business Plan and how it affects the success of their business.  My response to this question is, “I have the tools, templates and knowledge to help you write your Business Plan, but given the importance of this document it requires your input.”
In one case, I helped prepare a Business Plan for a client that I knew very well.  Given that he owned a number of businesses and had just purchased a franchise for his wife, the client was very time poor.  I was asked, “Can you prepare a Business Plan for franchise approval and finance approval?”  I suggested I work with his wife to carefully go through the Business Plan.  We spent some time discussing issues surrounding the franchise, including staffing, managing, cash flows, culture, marketing, training and general upkeep.  Given that I already had a good understanding of their business background, I was able to piece the rest together.  Upon completing the Business Plan I met with the wife again and ran through the plan to ensure she understood what had been done and made the required changes where it was necessary.
In the end the clients had a Business Plan that helped them successfully obtain finance and franchisor approval.  They now run a successful franchise parallel with their other businesses and are now looking to buy another franchise.
